flying pirate ship

illustration

This illustration was made as an assignment in a digital arts class. It was made in Adobe Illustrator and then refined in Procreate.

I like the idea of things belonging where they usually don’t, like ships in the sky.

This is the Adobe Illustrator version before refinements were made.

This is the sketch I used to begin the illustration. I originally made silhouettes of each element beneath the sketch before shading.

These are the thumbnails I came up with. I molded the ship on Chinese pirate ships because I liked the shape of the sails. I found a 3D model of the ship and used it to try out various angles, then adjusted the design to suit flying.
